I am really excited to try many new things in the solar oven.  I find it exciting,  in this technology filled world, to cook with nothing more than the power of the sun-an idea that just makes good sunse!

SUDDENLY SOLAR










This is my first attempt at solar oven cooking, and so far, it rocks! It took me mere minutes to put my recipes together. The oven is a stand alone unit, which needs nothing more than the sun to cook! I simply set it on a small table, pointed it to the sun, and added my pots filled with goodies. Today's menu is roasted potatoes, cabbage and leeks, with buckwheat cake (similar to corn bread, but allergen/gluten free) For dessert, I cooked a steamed English Pudding, chocolate, of course! I assembled the ingredients in the pots, popped them into the oven, closed the lid and let it bake in the sun for about 3 hours. The potatoes were roasted to perfection, while the cabbage and leeks were flavorful and tender. The buckwheat cake unmolded perfectly onto a plate, and I sliced it into wedges, topped it with raw yogurt and a drizzle of agave nectar. The steamed pudding was to die for! It tasted like a hot fudge brownie cake my mother used to bake-steaming hot, oozing with chocolate, and sinfully delicious! The steamed pudding was baked in a pint sized mason jar, but I am thinking a MUCH larger jar will be required for future puddings! I ate this one in one sitting.....

I cook everything gluten/allergen free, but its clear that the solar oven is well suited for ANY type of cooking. What a delight to cook with nothing more than the power of the sun. No electric, no pollution, and best of all, NO HEAT in the kitchen in August-sheer joy!
